Men who refuse to beleive common sense
So I was looking to see if there are any woman in software development groups specifically for windows mobile (as it's one of the biggest mobile device platforms), when i stumblmd on this blog post from 2005:
http://blog.ranabahu.org/2005/09/women-and-software.html
Now, the writer in question might just be a normal tech bod, but even what he wrote riled me up. I shold have known the entire post was going to tick all my aggrevation buttons after he stated that it's a well known FACT that gender defines how your brain is 'hard wired' and women are not 'hard wired' for maths... but no I ploughed on to see what this random geek thinks about women in softare development.
To summarise his opnion, ther are NO barriers to entry for women in software development, and the reason there are NO women in that field is because it doesn't interest women as a whole. None. Zip. Zero. Women and software mix like oil and water.
He still blogs, and still seems.. misguided so I thought I'd leva a comment. I do beleive you should always challenege mysogyny, bigotry and idocy whenever you witness it - unless the fight is obviously, within context, a futile one.
My comment went thus:
I know this is an old post but are you serious with this blog?
I suggest you take a look at this site to better educate yourself on women in technology:
http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Feminism_101
Also the (misguided and disproven) belife that gender dictates learning ability eg being 'hard wired for maths' is entirely unfounded.
I wonder if I will get a response?
